- Map and compass — basics
Discipline / 07
Before you head seriously into the mountains — learn to read them.

About the program
The mountain doesn't forgive improvisation. This course is the foundation for everything that comes after: orientation with map and compass, gear selection, movement on different terrain, reading weather and reacting when things go sideways. Theory in the classroom, drills on terrain, wrapped up with a short tour where you apply what you've learned in real conditions.
Map, compass, altimeter, GPS — how to know where you are and where you're going, with and without signal.
Walking uphill and down, scree, snow, wet rock — technique and pace.
Hazard recognition, first-aid basics, what to do when someone is lost.
Reading forecasts, route choice, plan B, when to turn back.
Program
The structure isn't a recipe — it's a frame. Every group sets the pace, we follow.
